The Native Communications Society of the Northwest Territories (NCS) is the voice of the Aboriginal
Community of the NWT. Our mandate is to provide broadcast and communications services that are
reflective of the interests, cultures, languages and lifestyles of the Aboriginal peoples of Denendeh
and the North. We are seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for implementing the
financial and budgetary decisions of the NCS Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Chair of the Board, the Executive Director is the senior administrative member of the
NCS team with primary responsibility for day-to-day operations of the NCS including delivery of Aboriginal
language programming through the CKLB-FM radio services and television programming for the
Aboriginal Peoples Television Network; staff administration; policies and procedures administration;
NCS capacity-building; developing or enhancing partnerships with Aboriginal organizations, government
departments, municipalities and community agencies; and advocating for NCS financial and
programming autonomy. The NCS will evolve according to the society’s strategic plan and specific
activities of the society’s membership.


The incumbent requires a broad base of communications and management experience including
proven supervisory experience; a knowledge of complex technical broadcast systems; strong computer,
oral and written communication skills coupled with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
an understanding and/or familiarity of the history, languages, cultures, governments and Peoples
of Denendeh; knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of a board of directors; a demonstrated ability
to write successful proposals for funding, strategic plans, operational reviews, financial management
reports, policies and procedures, briefing notes, and public / group presentations. The incumbent is
expected to meet many deadlines while managing conflicting priorities and demands.

The highly-motivated, professional and creative incumbent would normally hold a university degree in
communications, business management or public administration plus previous experience at a senior
management level. Previous experience working in a First Nation environment would be a definite asset
as would an ability to speak or understand a Dene language. Salary will be commensurate with education
