CFCR-FM, the community radio station in Saskatoon, made their local newspaper the Star-Phoenix's year-long list of reasons to love that city. See the full list celebrating the end of 2011 or the full article from August.

The station celebrated it's 20th anniversary this past year. According to the article: "It's been 25 years since a group of volunteers met in different living rooms across the city and formed the Community Radio Society of Saskatoon, after the closing of the U of S campus station in 1985.
CFCR borrowed a Saskatoon Telecable signal in its first year of operations in 1987. It was soon awarded a broadcasting licence and acquired a transmitter and necessary equipment with the success of yearly FM-Phasis fundraisers. Full-power broadcasting began from the old Third Avenue location in 1991. From the beginning there was a full slate of programming and about 60 volunteers. Now, more than 100 volunteers per week pass through the doors of the busy third floor downtown office."
Station Manager Neil Bergen was quoted as saying: "I was drawn to this place because it was everything radio wasn't anymore." He added "if you listen to community radio you're going to hear local musicians on the air every day. And not just once."
