Becoming a Member

According to our bylaws, these are the classes of membership:

Section 1.10 Membership
The Membership of the Corporation is divided into six categories: namely Regular, Developing, Board, Associate, Honorary, and Friends of Community Radio Members:

a) REGULAR MEMBERS
(i) Shall consist of (a) all campus, community, instructional and native radio stations who are licensed by the CRTC and who have applied for membership and been approved by the Board (b) all internet-based and closed-circuit stations officially affiliated with a college or university who have applied for membership and been approved by the Board (c) all internet-based and closed-circuit stations that stream more than 20 hours of original hosted programming a week and are not for profit registered societies, corporations or cooperatives in Canada with provisions in their bylaws ensuring that they are public access, volunteer-based and community-oriented who have applied for membership and been approved by the Board.
(ii) Shall be entitled to all rights as outlined in the Bylaws of the Corporation, including public notice of meetings and the right to speak and vote at meetings of the corporation.
(iii) Privileges and fees that may apply to REGULAR MEMBERS shall be determined by the Board.
(iv) Shall be entitled to all member services provided by or through the corporation.

b) BOARD MEMBERS
(i) Shall consist of all individuals as elected to the Board of Directors of the Corporation by the Regular Members during an Annual General Meeting following the guidelines set out in Article 1.17 or by any other means authorized by the Bylaws.
(ii) Board Membership shall be solely for the duration of their term, or upon vacation of Board position along the conditions outlined in Article 1.24.
(iii) Shall have all rights of REGULAR MEMBERS, excepting the right to vote at meetings of the Corporation.

c) ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
(i) Shall consist of any individual or organization, not entitled to become a REGULAR MEMBER, showing a particular interest in campus, community or non-profit radio or other non-profit community media organizations that the Board may approve from time to time.
(ii) Shall not be entitled to the rights of REGULAR MEMBERS, including notice of meetings, the right to speak or vote at meetings of the Corporation or eligibility to nominate directors.
(iii) Privileges, fees and Member services that may apply to ASSOCIATE MEMBERS shall be determined by the Board.

d) HONORARY MEMBERS
(i) Shall consist of individuals or groups recognized by the association for their significant and lasting contribution to the objectives of the Corporation.
(ii) Shall not be entitled to the rights of REGULAR MEMBERS, including notice of meetings, the right to speak or vote at meetings of the Corporation or eligibility to nominate directors.
(iii) Privileges and fees that may apply to HONORARY MEMBERS shall be determined by the Board.

e) DEVELOPING MEMBERS
(i) Shall consist of not for profit registered societies, corporations or co-operatives whose aim is to start a CRTC-licensed community or campus or native radio station, that also have provisions in their bylaws ensuring that they are public access, volunteer-based and community-oriented.
(ii) Shall have all the rights of REGULAR MEMBERS including the right to speak and vote at meetings of the Corporation.
(iii) Shall constitute a Developing Members Caucus who can make recommendations to the membership and at meetings of the Corporation.

f) FRIENDS OF COMMUNITY RADIO MEMBERS
(i) Shall consist of individuals and groups who make regular donations to the NCRA through the Friends of Community Radio program administered by the Association.
(ii) Shall not be entitled to the rights of REGULAR MEMBERS, including notice of meetings, the right to speak or vote at meetings of the Corporation or eligibility to nominate directors.
(iii) Shall be entitled to communications and donor recognition as determined in agreement between the NCRA and Friends Club donors.
(iv) Privileges and fees that may apply to FRIENDS OF COMMUNITY RADIO members shall be determined by the Board.
